The Wine
In the mountains of Calvana
Located at 400 meters above sea level, at the foot of the Monti della Calvana in the Florentine hills, Tenuta di San Donato’s vineyards grow on autochthonous terrains evolved on local limestone, rich in stone. Agronomic efforts are aimed at enhancing the natural biodiversity that surrounds the crops, and avoiding the use of non-organic compounds.
The nature of the soil, orientation and altitude allow a number of varieties to be farmed, selected over the years to produce high quality, harmonious, pleasant tasting wines.
The farm’s policy is to rediscover native Tuscan grape varieties, so since 1998 it has been producing “Casaglia” Colorino, traditionally blended with Sangiovese, as a single variety wine. Besides this venture the farm had already started to produce wine made with Italian and international varieties, now culminating in “Vico”, a new blend of Pinot noir, Gamay and Teroldego Rotaliano.
